NOVEMBER | It’s time for the first cherries of the season and I am looking forward to buying some lovely Aussie cherries after a Winter of seeing the occasional imported ones in supermarkets. If anyone has somehow missed my opinion on buying out-of-season produce that is shipped in from overseas, here it is again: Please don’t. It’s bad for our Aussie growers, bad for the quality, and bad for the planet. And besides, it’s exciting to look forward to things!
My veggie patch is really happy at the moment but it’s all thanks to the rainwater tanks that have allowed us to keep it watered. Green beans, peas, silver beet and beetroots are going nuts. I’m about to plant some more tomatoes, some lettuce and cucumbers to get ready for salads for the fast-approaching summer. My favourite things about November are the more frequent use of the barbie on the back deck, and of course Melbourne Cup!
